- Klinger, Robert L. - Sketchbook '76 - Old, but has some good equipment patterns. DO NOT try to sew clothes from this book, buy a good pattern instead
- Martin, Joseph Plumb - Private Yankee Doodle - The best and most entertaining memoir of the Revolution
- McCullough, David - John Adams - Everybody who's read it says its great
- Stokesbury, James L. - A Short History of the American Revolution
- Ulrich, Laurel Thatcher - Good Wives - An interesting look at the lives of New England women 1650-1750. Remember it's New England, tho, not New Netherland – Dutch women had more property rights.
- A Midwife's Tale - A fascinating look at the life of a Maine midwife after the war, lots of everyday life descriptions in both books. Also a great video!
- Muller, John - The Attac and Defence of Fortified Places - A reprint of the 1757 second edition with modern notes by David Manthey. - The Attac and Defence of Fortified Places was the definitive guide for conducting and withstanding sieges in the 18th century, strongly influencing both field generals and city governors. Originally in print from 1747 to 1791, this book covers the strategies used in conflicts such as the War of Austrian Succession, the Seven Years War, and the American Revolution. John Muller’s work draws heavily on Vauban’s solid foundation of the 17th century, expanding and updating it to include 18th century innovations and tactics.
- Robertson, John - A Treatise of Mathematical Instruments - A reprint of the 1775 third edition with modern notes by David Manthey. - A Treatise of Mathematical Instruments contains a complete description of a range of tools that are useful in mathematics, surveying, architecture, navigation, drafting, gunnery, physics, and illustration. It covers the sector (a form of calculator that predates the slide rule), the gunner's calipers, the proportional compasses, and a variety of lesser instruments.
- Wyld, Samuel - The Practical Surveyor - A reprint of the 1725 classic text with modern notes by David Manthey. - The Practical Surveyor is an instructional book on how to perform field surveys. This is not a textbook, but, as its title suggests, a practical guide. It includes descriptions of the tools of the trade, explanations on how to use the equipment, a detailed account on keeping field notes, instructions on drafting the results, and techniques for calculating the area and other quantities of the surveyed land.
- Heath and Wing Catalogue - Heath and Wing - A reprint of the 1765 Catalogue of Instruments with modern notes by David Manthey. - Heath and Wing were instrument and book sellers in London in the mid 18th century. They had various technical books printed for sale in their shop. These books had a catalog of their instruments bound into the back. The instruments include tools for surveying, drawing, navigation, physics research and demonstration. This gives a glimpse into the current state of technology and various sciences.

- New York State Museum - The New York State Museum is a major research and educational institution. It is dedicated to promoting inquiry and advancing knowledge in the fields of geology, biology, anthropology, and history, through the investigation of material evidence germane to New York State's past, present and future.
- Early Canada Online - Early Canadiana Online (ECO) is a digital library providing access to over 1,180,000 pages of Canada's printed heritage. It features works published from the time of the first European settlers up to the early 20th Century.
- Schenectady County Historical Society - Information about the history of Schenectady, including Churches that have Birth, Marriage and Death records and geneological records.
- New York's Forts - A celebration of the rich military history of New York State from the early 1600's to the present. This site contains an alphabetical listing of all forts, camps, "castles", fields, bases, etc., that exist(ed) in New York State. The word "fort" is used here in accordance with the early customs when it applied not only to forts of a larger size, but also to blockhouses, stockades, or earthworks that were protected by cannon, and were intended to be regularily garrisoned and maintained.
- The National Part Service - Links to the Past. Explore America's cultural resources - buildings, landscapes, archeological sites, ethnographic resources, objects and documents, structures and districts.
- American Antiquarian Society - A National Research LIbrary of American History, Literature and Culture through 1876. The library's collections document the life of America's people from the colonial era through the Civil War and Reconstruction. Collections include books, pamphlets, newspapers, periodicals, broadsides, manuscripts, music, children's literature, graphic arts, genealogy and local histories.
- The American Revolution and Its Era: Maps and Charts of North America and the West Indies 1750 - 1789 - From the Geography and Map Division of the Library of Congress. Included with the maps are maps of the Military battles and campaigns.
- NARA: National Archives and Records Administration - A source for Geneology and Pension records.
- CHS: The Connecticut Historical Society - The CHS Costumes & Textile Collection is among the largest in New England and documents the variety of clothing styles made and/or worn in Connecticut from the mid-1700s to the present.

The George Washington Papers at The Library of Congress - The complete George Washington Papers collection from the Manuscript Division at the Library of Congress consists of approximately 65,000 documents. This is the largest collection of original Washington documents in the world. Document types in the collection as a whole include correspondence, letterbooks, commonplace books, diaries, journals, financial account books, military records, reports, and notes accumulated by Washington from 1741 through 1799.
- The On-Line Institute for Advanced Loyalist Studies - Within you will find a combination of information believed to be unique among sites dealing with the Loyalists of the American Revolution.
- RewWar '75 - Lists of Orderly Books for the Continental and Crown Army's and lists of Battle order.
- Early American Paintings in the Worcester Art Museum - Includes biographies of twenty artists, detailed entries on fifty-three paintings, and checklist information on twenty-four additional works. Each of the seventy-seven works is illustrated. This catalogue encompasses all of the paintings in the museum's collection that were created prior to 1830 by artists who were either born or active in America, including works painted abroad by those artists.
- A History of Schenectady During the Revolution - To which is appended a contribution to the individual records of the Schenectady District during that period. This information is from A History of Schenectady During the Revolution by Willis T. Hanson, Jr. (Brattleboro, VT: E. L. Hildreth & Co., 1916). A major source of information on Schenectady and the 2nd Albany during the Revolution.
- A History of the Schenectady Patent in the Dutch and English Times - Being contributions toward a history of the lower Mohawk Valley by Jonathan Pearson. It is in Schenectady County Public Library's Schenectady Collection at Schdy R 974.744 P36. Copies of this book are available from the Schenectady County Historical Society.
- Indentured Servants and Slaves in Revolutionary Virginia - This study examines runaway indentured servants, convicts, and slaves that were described in the Virginia Gazette. Currently only 1775 is online, but eventually the years 1774-1778 will be available. The data for servants and convicts has already been entered into electronic format, but the slave descriptions are still being collected and await analysis.
- Eighteenth-Century Resources - These pages cover all the significant and reliable Internet resources that focus on the eighteenth century. The collection includes information on literature, history, art, music, religion, economics, philosophy, and so on, from around the world, as well as the home pages of societies and people who work on eighteenth-century topics.
- Virginia Runaway Ads - The Geography of Slavery in Virginia offers a new search interface and updated supporting materials for ads, 1736-1777. You can now search the ads by gender, age, skill, and intent, among other things.
- Colonial Williamsburg Portal to American History - The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation has put together a collection of ads from the Virginia Gazette, probate records and manuscripts that you can access.
